Timeless transformation honors home’s heritage

It took a special 1903 home in south Minneapolis to persuade these homeowners to move back to the city from a neighboring suburb. The “empty nesters” took on the fixer-upper, with the help of Albertsson Hansen Architecture (A&H) and the Transformed Tree team. This extensive project included adding a 250 -square foot addition to the back of the home’s main floor. The new space allowed for an expansive kitchen, mudroom, and a half-bath. Work on the second floor included converting four bedrooms into two, a new crafts room/workspace, updating a powder room, and a grand new bathroom off the primary bedroom. All aspects of the project were thoughtfully designed to integrate effortlessly with the home’s original craftsmanship and character.

The spacious new kitchen features custom cabinetry, bright white tile, new flooring, countertops, and a large center island where family and friends typically gather. All new appliances include a Wolf steam oven, Wolf range, and Sub-Zero refrigerator. The mudroom provides the perfect spot to drop off groceries, coats, and boots, while the all-new half bath boasts a stunning walk-in shower for a quick clean-up after outdoor chores. The second story’s powder room was refreshed, and a new guest room was created, which includes an adjacent crafts room/office. The primary bedroom/bathroom suite features new windows and storage, and an impressive bathroom with a large soaking tub, a walk-in shower, a custom vanity, and classic black-and-white tile flooring. Working closely with the A&H design staff, the homeowners chose a color palette throughout the house that creates the perfect backdrop befitting the home’s historic appeal.
