Main floor makeover
St. Paul’s Macalester-Groveland neighborhood is a popular community, filled with older homes boasting plenty of character, but that often have dated and choppy floor plans. The owners of this 1911 home envisioned creating new spaces that would enhance the flow and function of their main floor to better suit their needs while retaining the home’s charming appeal. We made it happen. After reorienting a stairway entrance, we reconfigured and entirely remodeled the kitchen, bringing increased storage, improved functionality, and organization to the busiest room in the house. We incorporated custom two-tone kitchen cabinets throughout, including large pull-out storage for pantry items and a wine bar, which serves as the perfect space to store spirits. New red oak built-in bookshelves and storage in the family room brought a warm ambiance to this family-favorite space. The new, expanded front entryway closet and refreshed powder room were also welcome updates. All combined, we devised a seamless blend of new, improved spaces and functionality while preserving the home’s distinct personality.
