Custom meets Craftsman

The owners of the south Minneapolis 1937 Craftsman home wanted a more functional kitchen and dining space for their family. The solution involved a reconfiguration and remodel of their outdated kitchen, the addition of a mudroom off the back entrance, and reimaging the center dining area. Bright white tile and open shelving give the kitchen a spacious, airy feel, while custom cabinets, quartz countertops, and new appliances and fixtures bring a polished look. The dining area became an extension of the kitchen and quickly turned into the favorite gathering spot. The large custom island includes plenty of seating space and a built-in microwave. A thoughtfully constructed wall of built-in cabinets was designed to mirror the room’s original adjacent built-ins. The new unit hides a large screen television and offers additional storage. Custom doors cleverly conceal an entry to the main floor offices, bathroom, and a stairway on one side, and under-stair storage on the other. All aspects of the project were guided by the desire to maximize functionality and space while blending new design elements seamlessly with the home’s historic character. The result is a family-friendly space that is the heart of this home.
